Charlottesville Taxi Fare Calculator - Tips ↑

  • Be sure to choose your preferred cab company option. Your fares can vary based on the company you use. This calculator assumes “local taxi companies” rates as the standard fare as most taxi companies in Charlottesville use these rates. However, if you choose to travel with Yellow Cab, please make sure to select it as your option.
  • Whenever possible, make sure to enter full addresses. For example, 1793 Richmond Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22911 to the CHO airport is 11 miles. However, Richmond Rd, Charlottesville, VA to the airport would calculate 18 miles. That's a difference of 7 miles or an additional $25 in your fare. For your convenience, the suggested addresses will be displayed after you type in some part of the address.
  • The wait time/car idling time is often overlooked during entering data on the calculator. Ideally, if you feel that you will be traveling during rush hour or will be traveling on a route with multiple traffic light stops, please input some minutes to cover the meter time spent idling. Hazardous weather includes storm - hurricane - tornado warnings, heavy rain, snow, sleet, hail or any condition that makes the road unsafe for driving. To be sure, please call your cab company to check if they plan on adding the extra surcharge.
  • Remember to check the airport pickup/drop off option if you are traveling to/from the airport as most cab companies have a minimum fare in place.

As Charlottesville VA has varying taxi rates, we based our calculator rates on the data provided directly by Yellow Cab of Charlottesville & Star Taxi Charlottesville which feature in the top 3 Google business results for the search term “Charlottesville Taxi” and other local taxi query variants. We made sure of these rates by actually reaching out to both the companies. We thank Yellow Cab & Max from Star Taxi for their time.

The other factor we considered while comparing rates and building a rate card model for taxi rates in Charlottesville was that both these taxi companies have been serving the Charlottesville area for 10+ years and have built a strong customer trust & review base. For fair estimates we felt it necessary to feature the rates of both companies so travelers can make better informed trip planning/budgeting decisions.

  • Similarly, minimum fares to CHO airport also vary by company. Star Taxi has a minimum $45 fare for rides to the airport. Please check with your cab company for their real-time rates.

Applicable City/Counties ↑

Taxi rates are applicable to the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle county, Fluvanna county & Nelson county. It is also important to note that, based on direct information from local cab companies, we find that customers in the counties of Louisa & Goochland are also serviced by C’ville taxi companies. Since these counties do not have any ordinances for taxi rates, we assume that the Charlottesville taxi rates may also apply to these counties.

Similarly, if you believe that you are traveling at peak hours in a heavy traffic area, it might be a good idea to add more minutes to your wait time. We suggest you estimate how much time you would be stuck in traffic and add those minutes to your ride)
  • Adding all surcharges if applicable ( for example.. late-night travel)
